A Mountain of Anime Updates Landed During the Festive Season
The winter break present a multitude of activities much better than scanning the headlines: discovering surprises, feasting on delicious food, and harnessing meditation skills to avoid snapping at relatives. Hopefully you succeeded in accomplish all these things and more. That said, the showbiz industry doesn't go on vacation, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. Many exciting announcements came out during the festive period, and if you didn't see some of them, here is a summary of the biggest bits.
The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Is Set to Continue (In 2027)
Without a doubt the most surprising announcement, the widely-criticized disaster that was the third season of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to halt the series' continuation. The show will come back with a second cour in 2027—such a distant date they could have called it season 4. Even more shocking, the studio J.C. Staff will still be at the helm. At least this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the outset, which could be taken as a positive development. But, the promotional image for the continuation is the same image the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This suggests that, at this point, they could be trolling the fans.
The Ruri Dragon Series Is Set to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has built a standing for being an elite animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the superb artistry of its productions but for the good working conditions of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had never worked on an anime based on a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, possibly the most famous magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became widespread acclaim when it first appeared in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a extended pause due to the author's health issues. When it resumed publication with a reduced workload, the series showed it hadn't lost the fans' affection and goodwill, and now everyone is overjoyed about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.
The Kingdom Series Season 6 Will Get a Sequel In Production
Kingdom is the best-selling, epic Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only recently got an English localization, but the anime has been running for years, and its sixth season was another stellar entry. It turns out that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been announced as in development, and it will very likely debut in 2026.
Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series
One more studio known for the superior craftsmanship of its projects, Science Saru has given us masterpieces of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the true story of Fatima, an prominent woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and captivating visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my must-watch list.
Tougen Anki Will Continue With a Second Season
Immediately following the release of episode 24, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be receiving a second season. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara.
